Course - Embedded systems - IELS3012
IELS3012 - Embedded systems
About
Lessons are not given in the academic year 2024/2025
Course content
The course gives specialized training in use of modern methods, techniques, and tools for design of embedded systems. At the start of the course, lectures will be given related to the tools and software available in the laboratory for specification, design, verification, and testing of circuits, software and systems. Afterwards, the students carry out a realistic development project in a team. The work includes specification, microcontroller programming, FPGA design, testing, verification, and documentation.
Learning outcome
Knowledge: The candidate
- has specialized knowledge of the design process of an embedded system.
- has knowledge of use of state-of-the-art tools for development of hardware and low-level software and and of integration with sensors and actuators.
- has good knowledge of how a design project should be run in order to achieve the defined goals within given deadlines. as well as necessary documentation and project management.
Skills: The candidate
- is able to work with a problem statement that is defined at an abstract level only.
- is able to develop, debug, and correct bugs in advanced systems that includes reconfigurable logic and on microcontrollers with software.
General competence: the candidate
- can work in a group with a project that has a abstract goal.
- can make decisions based on limited information, tolerating these decisions when they turn out to be suboptimal.
- can evaluate her/his own choices when additional information becomes available and improve the solution if possible.
Learning methods and activities
There will be work individually and in groups with suitable microcontroller and/or FPGA platforms.
Further on evaluation
Retake of the course will require new participation/deliverables in all activities.
