Course content

Based on the project carried out in IELS2001 Engineering Project I, the students get to brush up on increased complexity on all levels in this subject. It applies to the basic technology and development methodology for electronic system design, to sensors and actuators with associated electronic circuits, to the understanding and application of the microcontroller's instruction architecture and peripheral devices, and to the connectivity and interaction between the IoT node level and the layers above in the IoT system.

This is directly supported by the themes in parallel and previous subjects.

An IoT node will be designed with a focus on the sensor system elements, concepts from embedded systems (incl. FPGA intro). IoT connectivity. More complex electronics and signal processing

Some keywords: Measurement technology and sensor systems. Embedded systems. Communication technology. Introduction to RF communications: modulation, radio architectures, antennas, etc. Goes deeper into microcontroller systems, introduces the FPGA/uC combination. Deeper into sensor systems, electronic circuits and signal processing. Financial management and investment

Learning outcome

Knowledge

The candidate must understand

  • how relevant sustainability goals become important for the solution alternatives chosen in the project

Skills

The candidate must be able to

  • design and implement electronic systems as IoT-node-centered solutions of increased complexity in all stages and in the integration towards the layers above in the system, compared to the challenges in Engineering Project II
  • relate to basic principles for investment analysis and financial management in the project

General competence

The candidate must

  • increasingly be able to find out for themselves both expected and unexpected challenges that arise during the course of the project

Learning methods and activities

Project work in groups. Dialogue-based forms of learning in combination with lectures. Guest lectures and excursions. Some assignments with submissions

Compulsory assignments

  • Compulsory attendance
  • Assignment

Further on evaluation

The assessment in the subject takes place on the basis of submitted project reports. The number of reports and deadlines are given at the start of the semester. All the elements in the portfolio must be passed for a passing final result. It is compulsory to attend the course and some compulsory assignments. Number of assignments and deadlines are given at the start of the semester.
