About the course

Course content

The course will discuss sport as a public health policy tool, based on the established sport and health ideology in society. Furthermore, the course deals with several current and health-related challenges in sport. These include injuries, pain culture, stress, burnout and body focus, with associated central theoretical models and empirical research. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the research literature and how it can be connected to the field of practice (applied knowledge).

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

  • The student shall acquire a good knowledge of theory and empiricism related to current topics about the relationship between sport and health.

Skills:

  • The student shall be able to academically discuss various social science issues related to sport and health, as well as how this knowledge can potentially be applied in the field of practice.

Learning methods and activities

Lecture 2 hours per week and seminars 2 hours every third week.

  • Attend seminar
  • 3 papers

Further on evaluation

Exam registration requires that class registration is approved in the same semester. Compulsory activities from previous semester may be approved by the department.

Required previous knowledge

75 credits in Social Sciences and Sports Sciences or equivalent. The requirement must be fulfilled to be admitted to the course.
