Learning outcome
The student shall develop further as a designer, specifically within the field portfolio design and design for self promotion. The module entails the structuring and design of a large content matter gathered in a comprehensive portfolio (typically around 200 A3-pages), design for navigation and access, hierarchy, composition of text and images/illustrations, and technical preparations for print including colour management and pre-press and also binding of the final portfolio. The student will also have to make use of methods for project management and marketing to meet deadlines for the production of portfolios and to promote the final exhibition.
Through the super-structure project, the student will have to familiarize herself thoroughly with a given or self-defined design-relevant topic and under supervision create her own design brief which will then be answered. The student will develop her knowledge of design as a targeted activity and will develop her knowledge of her own interests and skills in graphic design. After completing the course, the student has steadily developed as an analyst, concept developer and designer, specifically in the field of portfolio design and presentation of his own work. Through the course, the students have gained deeper insight into the field of graphic design in general and for portfolio and self-promotion.
Learning methods and activities
Individual design projects, with weekly supervision (formative-iterative evaluation). Sketches, the work process and the end result must be documented.
Compulsory assignments

Further on evaluation
«Super-structure project»: Summative assessment at the end of the project: Pass / fail. The project / projects (which have been passed) are temporarily included in a workbook and can later be selected to be included in a final presentation folder (with ten practical design projects; from the workbook's about twenty practical design projects from the courses IDG1101 Typografi 1, IDG1362 - Introduction to user-centered design, IDG1051, Informasjonsgrafikk, IDG1009 Flerkanalpublisering, IDG1010 Typografi 2, IDG2000 - Områdeemne, Velferdsteknologi på tvers av fag, IDG2014 Redaksjonell design 1, IDG2013 Kalligrafi og Skriftdesign, IDG2015 Strategisk design, IDG3950 Veifinningssystemer, IDG2009 Kommunikasjon, IDG3009 Informasjonsarkitektur, IDG3010 Emballasjedesign, IDG3013 Redaksjonell design 2, IDG3014 Emneoverbyggende prosjekt, mappe og avgangsutstilling og IDG2200 Design og prototyping for nettbrett og mobil) which is graded as an independent, comprehensive work by a commitee of internal and external examiners at the end of the study's third and final year (grade scale A - F) . See the Bachelor in Graphic Design Curriculum for more information on the final portfolio grading. The super-structure projects must be passed in order to be able to submit a portfolio for censorship (see point 2. below).
«Folder and graduation exhibition»: The letter grade for the presentation folder's ten selected projects represents the majority of the workbook's practical design projects, and becomes the final grade for all the practical design project topics that have previously been assessed as «approved». The presentation folder is evaluated by a group of five sensors (three internal and two external). The following four criteria are emphasized: quality of use (the ergonomic dimension), idea and concept (the semantic dimension), expression (the aesthetic dimension), and craftsmanship.
If failed, the course must be re-taken.
