Course content

The course provides an introduction to the development of digital prototypes and testing of interactive solutions through an iterative process. Through lectures, exercises and project work, students will learn to master tools, techniques and information resources associated with the field. The students will become familiar with different evaluation methods to evaluate a prototype in the light of user needs and best practice.

Learning outcome

After completing the course, students will have:

Knowledge about

  • Key concepts in prototyping
  • The role of prototyping in a design process
  • Advantages and disadvantages of different prototyping techniques and tools
  • Testing and evaluation as part of the design process
  • Use of site maps and flow charts as part of the process of developing a digital prototype

Basic skills in

  • Wireframing
  • Storyboarding
  • Lo-fi, (mid-fi) and hi-fi prototyping
  • Relevant tools for prototyping (e.g. Figma)

General Competence

  • Demonstrate the ability to reflect and think critically regarding one's own development.
  • Document one's own work and reflect on personal choices and results.

Learning methods and activities

Compulsory activities

  • Tutorials

Portfolio assessment (100%), consists of:

  • Idea development
  • Wireframing and storyboarding
  • Low-fidelity prototyping
  • Hi-fidelity prototyping
  • Testing and evaluation
  • Documentation and reflection

Compulsory assignments

  • Tutorials

Further on evaluation

Participation in the required minimum number of tutorials must be met in order to pass the course.

If failed, the course must be taken again at the next ordinary completion of the course.

Minimum requirements for the number of tutorials are stated at the start of the semester.
