Course content
Academic content: introduction to technology management and organization theory, leadership, organization design, the Norwegian work-life model, innovation and technology development, change management and organizational learning.
Purpose: The module is part of the course series «Digitalization in the process industry» designed for «konkurranseutsatte industriklynger» as a collaboration between USN and NTNU. The module will provide an introduction to technology management, with the focus on the relationship between technology (particularly digital technologies) organization, leadership and employment.
Learning outcome
Knowledge: Students will be introduced to several theories and perspectives on the relationship between humans and technology on individual, organizational and societal level, in general and applied in an industrial context.
Skills: Students will train on applying academic and theoretical knowledge in analysis of own and peer students’ topics from their organizations and experiences in both oral discussions and written assignments.
General competence: The modul will aim for strengthen reflexivity on own and others experience and practice.
Learning methods and activities
There will be a combination of physical seminar, pre-recorded digital lectures (tailormade to this group) and digital. See figure.
seminars with presentation and discussions about presentations of assignments. Students are expected to prepare by reading suggested curriculum and other learning sources individually and in groups.
The course will provide one physical seminar and three digital seminars during fall.
Students will be organized in groups due to organizational and geographical considerations.
NTNU uses Blackboard as a learning and collaboration platform
Lectures and discussions will be held in English. If all participants speak Norwegian this can be changed on basis of a group agreement.
Compulsory assignments
- Mandatory attendance first day
- Mandatory participation in at least 2 of 3 lectures
Further on evaluation
It is mandatory to attend the first session, as well as mandatory participation in at least 2 of 3 digital sessions.
The assessment consists of three submissions. Each assignment must be passed to pass the course.
If you fail the course all parts must be taken again.

Recommended previous knowledge
Completed degree in technology, economics, management or science of 180 credits (bachelor level)
Minimum two years relevant work experience
Working conditions must be documented with a certificate from the employer describing the type of job/ work task, job percentage and duration.
