About the course
Course content
The bachelor thesis is a written assignment where the student discusses a historical topic, chosen in consultation with a supervisor. The aim of the course is to give students skills in writing an academic text. At the end of the course, students are expected to be able to document sources, reflect historically, analyse information and develop a coherent argument. The specialization thesis should be between 10,000-12,000 words.

The candidate should be able to
- develop a hypothesis or research question and carry out an historical analysis based on literature and/or sources, including to discuss and to draw conclusions
- read and analyse sources in a critical way
- construct and communicate historical arguments
- express him/herself in correct academic prose and learn how to find and cite relevant literature and sources
Learning methods and activities
Writing thesis, supervision, seminars. Topic and problem must be approved by the supervisor.

The bachelor’s thesis is normally written in Norwegian. If the thesis is written in English or in another non-Scandinavian language, the students must include an abstract in English in their thesis.
Specific conditions
Admission to a programme of study is required:
History with Teacher Education, years 8 - 13 (MLHIST)
Required previous knowledge
Admission to the five-year integrated teaching education programme in history, and minimum HIST1300, HIST1500, and HIST1505/HIST1515 (or equivalent).
