Course content
GEOG8523 builds on the MSc course GEOG3523. GEOG8523 incorporates additional curriculum on topographic and spatial thematic data capture and processing compared to GEOG3523, determined by candidate and supervisor in co-operation.
Learning outcome
By participating in this course the candidate will gain knowledge on core methods and skills on topographic and spatial thematic data capture and processing in a GIS environment.
Skills in map production in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) from data capture to represent spacious data in web and paper maps.
Spatial data modeling, database design, data capture and the use of remote analysis data are important factors.
After completing the course, the student should be able to produce maps on an independent basis.
Learning methods and activities
16 lecture hours and 16 hours practical exercise work. In addition, the work must be presented and an essay based on the additional curriculum must be handed in.

An identical version of the exam paper cannot be used directly in the PhD thesis at NTNU as an article or a chapter. A revised version of the exam paper may be included in the thesis.
