About the course
Course content
The course focuses mainly on health status, disease/injury and risk factors, however the geography of health services at different levels is also discussed. The main emphasis is on health and diseases in developing countries. General trends in health and societal risk factors and environmental factors in different parts of the world are also covered. The course covers studies from quantitative and qualitative research traditions.
The course includes a presentation on health and medical literature in libraries and databases. Students' own reading will form the basis for writing a term paper. The term paper must be approved before the written examination can be taken.
Learning outcome
The course gives broad knowledge about health and related concepts within a geographical approach. Based on this body of knowledge and critical reflection the student should be able to carry out scientific work on selected geographical settings and communicate geography of health perspectives to others.
Learning methods and activities
16 hours lectures, 8 hours seminars. It is expected that compulsory activities and examinations must be completed in English. Any exceptions in this regard, must be clarified with the lecturer responsible for the course.
Teaching will only be given if a sufficient number of students register for the course and if the Department has sufficient teaching resources. Information will be made available no later than 10 January in the spring semester and 10 August in the autumn semester.
