Course content
A general introduction to Newtonian mechanics. Newton's laws. Conservation of energy, momentum and angular momentum. Undamped oscillations. Gravitation and orbital movements. Experimental methods: Measuring physical quantities, data acquisition, interpretation, and documentation. A separate series of lectures introduce the students to a wider field of physics and mathematics.
Learning outcome
This course aims at providing an introduction to the basic theory of mechanical dynamics and gravitational interaction, as well as experimental methods in physics.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, laboratory exercises, home exercises. A re-sit examination may be changed from written to oral.
Compulsory assignments
- All laboratory exercises must be fulfilled
- Exercises (2/3 compulsory)
Recommended previous knowledge
Fysikk 1 (2FY) and Fysikk 2 (3FY) in upper secondary school.
