Course content

FVP3004 Sound Design is a practical course at master's level, where the students develop experience in designing sound for film, television, music and art.

Learning outcome

Knowledge

Upon successful completion of this course the student has knowledge of

  • the use of sound and sound effects within various media and artistic expressions
  • terminology for production of sonic expressions
  • narrative and communicative qualities of sound

Skills

Upon successful completion of this course the student knows how to:

  • create narrative expressions through sound
  • design sound for various audiovisual productions
  • master subject terminology in the production and analysis of sound

Learning methods and activities

Lectures / seminars and practical assignments. The course has compulsory activities in the practical assignments. The students are required to keep up to date on messages from the department or lecturer on Blackboard. This course is taught in Norwegian only.

Further on evaluation

The final assessment consists of one practical examination and one oral examination. Each examination counts 50 % of the final grade. Both examinations must be passed in order to complete the course and get a final grade. If the student fails only one of the examinations, the student can retake the failed examination. The mark of the passed examination will be valid until both examinations are passed and a final combined grade is given. The time-frame for retaking the practical examination may vary, according to the Deparment's production resource capacity.

Creative Music Technology (MMUST)
Film and Videoproduction (MMPROD)

Required previous knowledge

Admission to the Master's programme in Film and Video Production or the Master’s programme in Music Technology is required.
