Course content

The course consists of discussions and reflections on theoretical and methodological texts of significance for the candidates' research projects.

Learning outcome

On completing the course the candidate should have obtained:

Knowledge

- on important theoretical and methodological research questions in aesthetic disciplines and being able to account for these

Skills

- being able to analyze theoretical interpretations, reasoning and academic arguments including outside of their discipline-specific framework

Learning methods and activities

The course is held as a series of seminars. The participants must hold three presentations in three different seminar, one presentation of their own PhD-project, as well as two presentations of texts, one of the texts should be an established text in the humanties and a more specific text relevant for the candidate's project and the on-going discussions in the seminar. Following the presentation and comments, the text will become a topic for discussion in the group. The participants are also expected to comment on at least one of the other participants' presentations. The participants must hand in an essay (10.000-12.000 words) related to the course material. In addition, participation in at least 10 seminars of 3 hours each is required. This entails following the course over 2 semesters, the semesters do not have to be consecutive.

Requires admission to a PhD programme or employment as a PhD research fellow.

Reading list to be announced at the beginning of term and will be decided on the basis of the composition of the group and their academic needs.
