Course content

The course addresses the theories of historical didactics with particular emphasis on the concepts of historical consciousness, history / memory culture and historical use. Reflections on the relationship between past, present and future in the work of storytelling will be central. The course aims to shed light on and discuss how history cultures can be identified and analyzed in different ways. How the history-culture concept (and understanding) can contribute to history-didactic development work in schools, museums and society at large, and how memory cultures characterize the dissemination and presentation of past events. The relationship between different traditions of concepts, categories, models and theories is explored through central concepts from school and society, where the historicity of concepts will be emphasized. Work on customized concepts of learning and is central.

The candidate

  • has advanced knowledge of key developments in history didactic theory theory in recent decades
  • has in-depth knowledge of the concepts of historical consciousness, history culture, the uses of history, memory culture and about methodological approaches to the dissemination and learning of history
  • has knowledge of whether and, if possible, how curriculum and textbooks allow for historical consciousness and history culture thinking, and how such approaches can be used in the dissemination of history in and outside the school
  • has advanced knowledge of the development of key concepts for critical social understanding, and has in-depth knowledge of concept learning

Skills

The candidate

  • can discuss different story didactic theories and apply them at different levels in school
  • can be able to reflect on and apply the concepts of history consciousness, history culture and memory culture in the dissemination and learning of history
  • can discuss issues about how curricula and textbooks open to historical consciousness and history culture thinking, and can evaluate their use in and outside the school
  • can reflect on and apply key key concepts for critical social understanding

The candidate

  • can analyze and contribute to new thinking in the use of history and the significance of history and memory cultures for contemporary understanding and interpretation of the past
  • can reflect on the dissemination of history in and outside the school
  • can relate to science, disciplines and concepts, their development and alternating status as premise providers for understanding human and society

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, seminars, student presentations.

Compulsory activites

1 oral presentation and 1-2 written tasks. Attendance in teaching is required to carry out mandatory activities.

Compulsory assignments

  • Oral presentation and written assignment

Further on evaluation

Oral exam begins with a presentation / answer of a predetermined assignment. Oral examination starts after the presentation.
