Course content
The work with the Master's thesis is a practical exercise in academic dance research. The student chooses a topic for the thesis in consultation with her/his supervision group and in relation to the subjects of priority defined by the academic staff and students early in the study.
Learning outcome
Knowledge:
An examinee with completed qualification in DANS3010:
- has advanced knowledge about relevant historical, theoretical, aesthetical, ethnographical perspectives in the actual field he/she is working
- has advanced knowledge about the theoretical basis for developing a larger academic project
- has been able to carry through advanced dance research
- has good skill in critical assessment and use of relevant theoretical and practical material
Skills:
An examinee with completed qualification in DANS3010:
- knows how to write a scientific text and can collect and analyze practical material
- can by searching literature and criticism of the sources define, find, organize and contextualize a dance material
- can organize field work
- can combine an advanced dance analysis or field work with theory and methodology
General competence:
An examinee with completed qualification in DANS3010:
- can work independently with an academic project
- can combine theory and methodology in a larger written work
Learning methods and activities
Individual supervision, subject seminar. The students shall deliver an outline in the beginning of the semester. The usual scope of the thesis is approximately 22 500-31500 words.

Further on evaluation
If the master's thesis is not passed, a new or reworked master's thesis with significant changes be handed in for grading ONE more time.
