Course content
- Laws, regulations, guidelines and standards.
- Safety of constructions, also seen in an ethical perspective.
- Loads, load combinations and load effects.
- Self-load, Payload, Snow load, Wind load and Traffic load.
- Load placement (most unfavorable placement of loads).
- Behavior of constructions.
- Carrying systems.
- Ultimate limit state (ULS).
- Serviceability limit state (SLS).
- Accidental design situations.
- Construction components.
- Behavior of constructions.
- Carrying systems.
- Use of construction related computer programs.
Learning outcome
Knowledge:
- Basic knowledge of the principles of operation of various support systems.
- Basic knowledge of both the empirical and theoretical basis for the European standard work (NS-EN), for the course's topics.
Skills:
- Determine the dimensioning loads of a building structure using NS-EN for self-loads, payloads, snow loads, wind loads and traffic loads.
General competence:
- Have acquired current subject terminology.
- Good knowledge of the basis for load calculations and of principles for the load-bearing capacity of structures.
The course contributes to the study programme's D-string, ie digitization / digital competence when offering training and the use of current calculation software in connection with compulsory activities. The course also contributes to the ethics string in the study program, ethics in connection with construction safety is treated.
Learning methods and activities
Scheduled time: lectures: 60 hours; organized guidance: 60 hours; work with compulsory assignments: 120 hours; other preparation: 50 hours; a total of 290 hours. Compulsory work requirements: 5 to 7 exercises, all of which except one must be approved.

If fail: Re-sit of written exam in August.
