Course content
The master thesis is the culmination of the Master of Science program. The candidates will plan and conduct a research project throughout the termin, which is presented in the final master thesis. The thesis must satisfy requirements of relevance and is expected to acquire new knowledge that targets specific goals or applications.
Learning outcome
Knowledge:
- Demonstrate significant insight into relevant and updated research literature and theories for the presented research question
- Demonstrate understanding and proficiency in relevant research methods
Skills:
- Know how to formulate research questions
- Find and use relevant literature
- Set up and follow an appropriate research design to collect data,
- Analyze and draw conclusions based upon the research process.
General competence:
- Under supervision know how to plan and implement an independent research project in line with accepted research ethical norms
- Through the work on the master thesis develop ability to critically reflect on own and others work, including ability to assess theoretical and practical implications of a variety of research- and project work
Learning methods and activities
The master thesis should be an independent work under supervision. Supervisor will be assigned based on the research proposal. The master thesis is written alone or with a fellow student (max 2 students).

Further on evaluation
Submission: End of May. The date is given in studentweb before the registration deadline 1st of February. If special causes arise (e.g. illness), students can apply for a deferral until 31 August the same year.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Economics and Business Administration (MSIVØK5)
Economics and Business Administration (ØAMSC)
Required previous knowledge
The course is only available for students admitted to the Master of Science in Business and Administration at NTNU Business School.
Mandatory courses, necessary main profile courses and Research methods must be passed by the registration deadline February 1. Students may apply for an exemption to this requirement with a maximum of 7,5 credits outstanding. Grounds for application must be stated.
