Examination arrangement

Course content

The placement shall be an independent work carried out at an artistic institution, enterprise or research project. The purpose of the placement is to challenge the student to utilize the knowledge and skills achieved in the study programme and for the student to hone creative and professional skills and to gain insight and experience relevant to the study and future work life. The course consists of placement and a written report.

Students will find the placement/practical training by themselves and have it approved by the academy. The approval of the placement is possible under the condition of the activities not coming into conflict with learning activities in the bachelor's programme.

The enterprise must provide a contact person and the academy must provide a supervisor for the student. The placement is formally approved by signing an agreement between the enterprise or research project, the student and the academy. The academy will provide a placement guide for the students and enterprise or research project.

The duration of the placement must be between 50 and 75 working hours in a minimum of three working weeks.

Learning outcome

Knowledge about:

• How to be involved in projects and organisations as a practice-based visual artist.
• How to work in an organization.
• Various work techniques and production technical aids.
• How to assist in projects with artistic techniques and tools, including audiovisual documentation.

After completing the course, the student will have knowledge of how artistic activities are organized and work.

Skills:

• Can integrate practice as a visual artist into the work of the organization or business.
• Can use knowledge and skills acquired in the course.
• Can contribute to the solution of artistic problems.

Competence:

• Has experience in tasks and professional practice related to the arts and culture industry.
• Has insight into practical issues in work situations.
• Can document the project work in a correct professional manner.

Learning methods and activities

Competence is acquired through active participation in practical and theoretical work in an enterprise or in a research project.

The student is responsible for getting the placement approved and documented within the deadlines stated in the Academy of Fine Art's practice and placement guide:

1. Approval of the placement enterprise by the course responsible before the placement agreement is signed.
2. Placement agreement, completed and signed before the placement can start. Signed by:
   1. Contact person at the place of placement.
   2. The placement student
   3. The Academy of Fine Arts.
3. Final certificate, written by the contact person at the placement enterprise, which documents:
4. Description of work and work tasks performed by the student
5. Days/hours work in total (50-75 hours of work over at least three weeks)
6. Absence
7. Assessment of the practical placement activities during the placement period (use a separate sheet if applicable)

Further on evaluation

The student will write a final report, which will convey the following:

• The artist's function in an enterprise or research project.
• Future perspectives for an artistic career.
• The artistic work of society.

Attachment:

1. Placement plan
2. Timesheet log
3. Certificate/memorandum from the enterprise as documentation of completed placement.

New and postponed exam: If the student fails, the student will have the opportunity to write a new report.

Specific conditions

Required previous knowledge

Must have passed 60 ECTS of the bachelor in fine art programme before the placement.
