Course content
The course offers an introduction to entrepreneurial thinking, endeavours and realisation, that takes the artistic practices and interests of the students as a starting point, but everyone is encouraged to take one's own practice further, to build teams with complementary skills, to reach out and investigate, to make practice a project. To get a more concrete idea of possible roles artists can play in society.
An artistic entrepreneurial venture, an undertaking, can take many shapes and includes a wide range of artistic practices. It involves an awareness of economic systems and societal conditions in which artists are operating. It’s a process that may begin with a longing for something that doesn’t seem to exist yet. That may begin with the question, what does it mean to create something new? That may begin with questioning the surroundings within which we are moving, the environment—close and distant, the complexities of the world we are living in. We may ask, what is needed, how can art contribute? What do we want? An intuition towards the not yet known is the beginning of any process of creation, the crucial difference is, an artistic entrepreneurial venture goes beyond studio practice, it might become a collaborative project that involves conceptualizing, research, conversations, negotiations, planning, budgets.
