Course content
Topics: - Transport capacity of water tunnels, depending on the main parameters (pressure, cross section area and roughness). - Head loss measurement. - Methods for measurement of roughness. - Head loss estimation based on roughness measurements. - Dimensioning of water tunnels (economical optimisation). - Relation between head loss and rock blasting technique. - Quality assurance and performance in accordance with design parameters. - Methods of increasing the capacity of existing tunnels.
Learning outcome
Knowledge, skills and general competence: The goal of the course is to give the students further knowledge and understanding of factors which influence the roughness, head loss and economic design of tunnels for water transport.
Learning methods and activities
Study group. An individual study report (e.g. literature survey, experimental or numerical study or similar) is mandatory.
Specific conditions
Admission to a programme of study is required:
Engineering (PHIV)
Required previous knowledge
The course will be run if at least 3 students with relevant background wish to attend. If you wish to attend, please contact the course coordinator. Students not admitted to the PhD programme in engineering may be approved by the course coordinator.
