Course content

The course gives an introduction to innovation theory with particular focus on change management in existing organizations. Sustainability is a key aspect in this. The course will cover topics such as:

  • Learning organizations
  • Innovation models and innovation processes
  • Management of innovation processes
  • Innovation systems
  • Regional intrapreneurship

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

After completion of the course, students will have foundational knowledge about central conecepts and perspectives within innovation. The students will have insight into innovation models and processes, have knowledge about how one organizes for innovation and learning, as well as understand how innovation activities take place in interaction with an organizations surroundings.

Skills:

After completing the course, students should be able to analyze an innovation case based on innovation theory from the course literature, as well as be able to present own recommendations to activities and strategies.

Competence:

After completing the course, students will have an understanding of the complexity that innovation processes represent for established organizations. It is expected that students are able to apply theoretical descriptions of innovation models or innovation processes to analyze empirical examples of innovation in existing organizations.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, open discussions, exercises, group work, guidance and presentations. Lectures will be in Norwegian.

Compulsory work may include obligatory attendance. Details on compulsory work is given at the start of the semester.

Individual written home exam. A resit exam will be held the following semester. Approved mandatory assignments are valid for later exam attempts.
