Course content

The course contains one or several architectural or urban project(s) which is arranged and done under supervision by a responsible assistant professor, associate professor or professor from one of the architectural departments. The project(s) are defined in a dedicated task description formulated by the responsible for that current semester. The given task description forms the basis of the course content, learning activities and evaluation criteria. The task description should also contain an overview of the planned course material and a preliminary overview of the works that will be submitted for examination. The task description should be available before the beginning of the semester. The responsible must organize the examination in the same semester. The course should be taken in combination with the attached knowledge course AAR4685 Open Knowledge Course - Architecture and Technology . The department reserves the right to not offer the course each semester.

Knowledge:

The candidate ...

- has advanced knowledge of specific architectural and / or planning prerequisites for the chosen project assignment and can apply this knowledge in their own architectural work.

Skills:

The candidate ...

- is able to give form to architecture and / or urban plan through artistic and scientific investigations, concept development and architectural design in relevant scales and formats.

- is in command of architectural methods, tools and expressions and can apply these skills in architectural and / or urban design in a targeted, professional and experimental manner.

- is able to apply architecture as a field of knowledge in their own architectural work; its theory and history, as well as its technical, scientific, social and cultural basis.

- is able to apply advanced aesthetic and practical understanding (tacit knowledge) in their own architectural work.

General competence:

The candidate ...

- takes independent responsibility for their own learning and professional development and is able to apply their knowledge in new fields.

-is able to reflect critically and ethically on their own architectural work, create new frameworks for understanding, and depart from conventions after critical consideration.

- is able to communicate architectural work at a professional level and in an academic context. - relates their professional competence and commitment to important societal issues and sustainability.

Learning methods and activities

To be decided in advance by the responsible for the course or current task description. See the paragraph Academic content. The course places great demands on the student's ability to do independent architectural work under supervision.

Optional excursions can be arranged as part of the teaching of the course. Students who participate in optional excursions must expect to pay small share of the expenses. For students who do not participate in optional excursions, an alternative will be offered.

Further on evaluation

The assessment in the course is carried out as a portfolio assessment with oral presentation. The portfolio must be submitted in entirety for censorship within the stated deadline. By oral presentation, the candidate must present the project orally for the examiner.

Required previous knowledge

Completed three years basic courses in architecture, bachelor's degree in architecture, or equivalent. The course is the main element of a combination with AAR4685 Open knowledge course - which must be taken in the same semester.
