About the course

Course content

The Course will study, discuss and investigate fundamental aspects in architecture; relation to site and place, to topology in a broad sense, and to tectonic considerations. The aspects of typology will emphasize the aspects of use.The course emphasize design of architecture. As a source for meaning and inspiration the study of landscape, materials, knowledge and systems will be integrated parts. This means to establish a creative design process where the experiences of each student and an understanding of landscape forms and qualities are taken into account. Tectonic understanding of elementary components shall form integrated relationships and solutions. Example of such components ca be:- materials and building systems- program and building structure- landscape and situation- accessability and communication

Learning outcome

Knowledge:- Training of individual methods and the ability to handle creative design processes.- Using of a wide range of points of departures in order to explore architectural potentials.- Obtaining necessary theoretical knowledge and use this knowledge through practical exercises.Skills:- Development of mature solutions based on evaluation of individually developed methods.- Ability to investigate, understand and find architectural correlation between detail, materials, structure, landscape and place.General competence (attitudes):- Training of knowledge and skills for exploring architectural potential.- Developement of ethical approach.

Learning methods and activities

- Experimenting and architectural design, individually or in small groups- Field work and excursions- Seminars and lectures- Drawing, modelling and photo are important toolsLessons will be given in English if some international students follow the course.
