About the course
Course content
Central themes of the course are calculation of loads, mechanics of materials, bracing of constructions and design of wood-, steel- and reenforced concrete structures.
Learning outcome
KNOWLEDGE: The course provides an understanding of the statics of basic structural systems and of structural properties of the most important buildings materials.
SKILLS: After the course, the student should be able to propose structural systems for simple buildings and to calculate approximate dimensions of basic structural elements.
COMPETENCE: Give insight in interrelation between building materials, structural systems and architectural form.
Learning methods and activities
The course consist mainly of lectures and calculation exercises. In addition there will be at least one practical exercise. The activities of the course is coordinated with the main course at 1. year of Architectural program of study.

Further on evaluation
Obligatory work must be delivered and approved before the exam. Deferred exams and failed exams are normally taken during the next ordinary examination period. Approved obligatory attendance is valid for up to 1,5 year for voluntary re-take examinations. To take the exam, the students must pass all practical exercises and 4 / 5 of the other exercises. Written examination counts 100 percent.
Postponed examinations are usually scheduled for the next regular exam period.
