  • Two-dimensional compositional analysis
  • Three-dimensional design with intuitive starting point
  • Drawing as a learning and documentation tool in understanding architecture
  • Drawing as a method of building a socially sustainable learning atmosphere

Learning outcome

Knowledge: The students must have acquired basic knowledge of the various aspects of analog drawing, digital / hybrid drawing techniques, as well as mixed media as a method for expression in the creative processes. The student will also have some knowledge of what the work with form entails in terms of aesthetics. The student will acquire analytical view of composition with the intent to translate this into design processes further in the study.

Skills: Students must have practiced the craft of analog drawing that enables them to explain form and space at a basic level. The student must be able to use drawing as a method in creative processes at several levels and have practiced an analytical view for form composition and image construction.

Learning methods and activities

Project assignments, lectures and individual guidance. Lectures will present fundamental elements, alongside process-dependent in-class instruction. The course is based on a combination of one's own experience together with instruction. Personal experience will be an especially important component of workmanship skills (free-hand drawing) for broadening an understanding of the form and aesthetic aspects of the subject. There will be in-class reviews of project assignments. Students are strongly urged to participate in evaluation of their own projects.

Further on evaluation

The assessment in the subject is carried out as a portfolio assessment.

There will be a PDF available on Blackboard and on Inspera that describes the assignment requirements for submission in spring.

Written reflections are required but are not graded. This means that we want the student to enter a reflection text about their own learning in the booklet. This is a text that everyone must write, but the content of the text will not effect the final grade. This is to avoid students putting their own censorship on personal opinions in case it will effect the grade. We do not rate personal opinions and experiences. But we ask everyone to do the action to the best of their ability.

Assignment answers + written reflections must be inserted into the layout template continuously throughout the semesters. The IDD template is posted on Blackboard at the start of the semester.

It is important that the work is well documented, has a sufficiently high resolution and is digitally edited where necessary. The wording "selection of drawings" means chosen answers from a larger production of works.

There is a combined submission in the spring of all assignment tasks from autumn and spring, It is not expected that the student continue to work on the tasks but some work on lay out may be needed after each teaching period.

Emphasis is placed on progression, regardless of the existing level of competence the student has at the start of the course.

In the event of a failure, the student is asked to improve or redo the parts of the portfolio submission that were not sufficient. Postponed exams are carried out in the next exam period.
