Course content

Real estate economics deals with basic knowledge of financial matters related to real estate. The subject touches on the real estate sector's impact on value creation in society, issues related to sustainability, circular economy and the significance of economic framework conditions for investment in real estate. Students will learn important concepts in real estate economics and will be introduced to models and methods that shed light on key aspects related to location decisions and the determination of rental and sales prices. Students will also be introduced to various methods of valuing real estate, basic accounting principles and analyzes of accounts and other financial information.

Learning outcome

KNOWLEDGE - The students

  • have basic knowledge of financial matters related to real estate.
  • have in-depth knowledge of the framework conditions for real estate development and management, market forces, various types of market failures and the role of the public sector in the real estate market
  • have basic knowledge of the structure of the accounts and accounting terminology
  • have good knowledge of various forms of financial analysis and methods for valuing real estate and real estate projects

SKILLS - The students

  • can analyze the effect of macroeconomic factors on construction activity, real estate prices and rental prices
  • can apply basic accounting principles to real estate economics
  • can make valuation of real estate
  • Can prepare analyses of financial information and apply them

  • understand the basic mechanisms of real estate economics and value creation
  • have a good understanding of the real estate sector's impact on value creation in society, issues related to sustainability, circular economy and the importance of economic framework conditions for investment in real estate.
