Norwegian and English language requirements for admission


The Norwegian language requirement can be covered with one of the following tests:

  • Norskprøven for voksne innvandrere fra Kompetanse Norge / Vox (Norwegian test for adult immigrants from Skills Norway, formerly Vox) with a minimum result of B1 on all four subtests
  • Norwegian written and oral at Vg3 level (393 hours) at a Norwegian upper secondary school
  • Test of Norwegian - advanced level, written (Bergenstesten), with minimum grade "Pass". If you took the test before 2009, you must have at least 450 points
  • Examination from at least Level 2 in Norwegian for international students at the universities
  • Completed and passed course of study in higher education of at least 60 credits in Norwegian language and social science for international students
  • Norwegian Test 3 for adult immigrants


To qualify for the programme, applicants must have passed a test or examination in English. The English language requirement  can be met with one of the following tests:

  • English at Norwegian upper secondary school (140 hours), written and oral
  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) with at least 500 points on the paper-based or 60 points on the Internet-based test
  • IELTS (International English Language Testing Service), academic test with 5.0 or better
  • Cambridge ESOL Examinations:
    •  First Certificate in English
    •  Certificate in Advanced English
    •  Certificate of Proficiency in English
  • Pearson PTE Academic test with a overall score of at least 51
  • The European language certificate - telc:
    • telc English B2
    • telc English B2-C1 University
    • all telc certificates at C1 level
