Mission: Map and understand life in water
Through mapping and analysis of biodiversity, we will develop knowledge to promote thriving environments in water, watercourses and marine environments. Knowledge about the diversity, distribution, dynamics and behavior of species is severely lacking. This limits our understanding of ecosystems, habitat types and relationships in nature.
The greatest threat to nature today comes from external influences. To address this threat effectively, we need to understand how species coexist, how ecosystems and species mutually affect each other, and how these processes are affected by disturbances and changes. The natural world is changing, influenced by both natural dynamics and human activity. Our mission is to create the knowledge base needed to develop good tools, so that qualified decisions can be made to safeguard life in both saltwater and freshwater.
