About Ocean literacy

Mission: Through art, creative projects, and research-based work, we aim to develop new insights into the interplay between the ocean, art, and human experience.

Blue Art is an interdisciplinary platform that explores how art and artistic research can contribute to greater ocean literacy. What does the ocean mean to art, and how does art shape our understanding of the ocean? Through creative projects and research-based work, Blue Art seeks to develop new insight into the relationship between the ocean, art, and human experience.

Our work spans a wide spectrum and includes both material and immaterial production, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and the use of both artistic and scientific methods. We explore artistic and cultural expressions in relation to water, the ocean, and the coast—whether through intellectual history perspectives, site-specific investigations, cultural narratives, or value creation linked to the sea.

Through visual and auditory expressions, exhibitions, and projects, we aim to convey artistic perspectives that shed light on the ocean’s role in both nature and society. Blue Art invites new ways of thinking about how we see, understand, and relate to the ocean—using art as the gateway.
