Your summer read by Keith and Knut
Your summer read by Keith and Knut
We asked two leading researchers at the Department of Computer Science at NTNU for their summer read recommendations. Professor Keith Downing and Associate Professor Knut Magne Risvik were not difficult to ask, and they both put together a list in several formats with some brief comments on their choices.
Four books chosen by Keith Downing:
-
A brief history of intelligence: evolution, ai and the five breakthroughs that made our brains, by Max Bennett
-This is a fantastic mix of neuroscience, psychology and AI.
- Co-intelligence: Living and working with AI, by Ethan Mollick
-A good practical discussion about how AI should (can) be used like in education.
- The Coming Wave: technology, power and the 21st century's dilemma, by Mustafa Suleyman
-This is quite a good discussion about both AI and gene research and what happens when you combine these two powerful technologies
- Burn Book: A Tech Love Story, by Kara Swisher
-Kara has covered tech in Silicon Valley (and everywhere) for many years for the New York Times. She has a couple of great podcasts too. I haven't read the book myself, but I've heard a lot of good things about it. There are various "inside stories" about Silicon Valley.
Knut Magne Risvik’s choices
Associate professor Knut Magne Risvik, also known to many as a Distinguished Engineer at Microsoft, Seattle, recommends both reading, watching and hearing about AI in his summer read list for NorwAI's readers.
