Nordic Probabilistic AI School 2022

Nordic Probabilistic AI School 2022

The third edition of Nordic Probabilistic AI School, or ProbAI for short, was held in Helsinki on June 13-17. More than 180 participants, lecturers, and organizers from all over the world, and among them representatives from NorwAI, met at the University of Helsinki’s Kumpula campus for 5 days of lectures on probabilistic programming tools, probabilistic models, deep generative models, latent variable models, sampling-based inference, and some of the latest research in the field of probabilistic machine learning.

The first two editions of ProbAI were organized in Trondheim by the Norwegian OpenAI Lab and NTNU. This year, the school was a joint collaboration of the Finish Center for Artificial Intelligence, the University of Helsinki, Norwegian OpenAI Lab, and NTNU.

This year, ProbAI received more than 700 applications, of which 150 were admitted. The school was open to everyone, and though most participants were PhD students, we also saw professionals in academia and industry participate. For students, NTNU offers a PhD course with the possibility of being awarded 7.5 ECTS credit points after finishing an assignment related to the material presented at the school.

After being canceled in 2020, and being an all-digital event in 2021, ProbAI 2022 was yet again a physical event, that brought lecturers, participants, and organizers together in person. This meant a great opportunity for networking and workshops. Two poster sessions were also organized to give participants the ability to share their work.

Thanks to all the participants, teaching assistants, organizers, and lecturers that made ProbAI 2022 a success.
