Systems biology and Synthetic biology:

creating is understanding

This 2014 EiT village focuses on the biological research areas Systems Biology and Synthetic Biology

The village theme allows for a variety of projects with different mixes of skills from the humanities and exact sciences.

In general, projects will center around an understanding of how biological systems are designed and operate; how this will allow the optimization and development of novel biological processes or organisms; and how such a systems understanding can be generated by trying out new synthetic constructs, processes and model organisms.

Projects need in particular to discuss ethical and societal aspects of this type of work.

Village leader: Professor Martin Kuiper, Department of Biology
