This hands-on master's programme, with a focus on naval architecture, offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with industry partners and a costumer to develop a full-scale prototype.
In this master's programme, you get to solve actual engineering problems for a real prototype product. You get to address a challenge in our society and solve all engineering tasks from designing the hull to ensure that the collected plastic is recycled.
You will be part of a project group with a given engineering domain based on your interests. The project works closely with a customer and the supplier industry to adapt existing technology, develop new solutions, and integrate everything. You don't get any closer to entrepreneurship and working life.

Engineers with a master in naval architecture have the world as their workplace. You get to work with the major challenges the oceans are facing today, and maybe you find a piece in the puzzle for cleaner and healthier oceans.
You can work in all engineering domains related to maritime technology. Jobs range within design, engineering, operations, maintenance as well as management, finance, insurance and governments.

Naval Architecture students is part of the student organisation Sigma. Sigma organises social and professional activities throughout the academic year - they also have their own sailboat.
Studying in Ålesund will provide you with plenty of opportunities to explore a region of Norway that is famous for its beautiful scenery with high mountains and blue fjords.

You can either take this master's degree programme as a discipline oriented master degree (120 ECTS) over two years or as an experience-based master degree (90 ECTS) over one and a half years.

Discipline oriented master's degree in Naval Architecture - 120 ECTS
Bachelor in ship design, naval architecture, marine technology or equivalent, including at least 30 ECTS credits in mathematics/statistics.
Experience-based master's degree in Naval Architecture - 90 ECTS
Bachelor in ship design, naval architecture, marine technology or equivalent, including at least 30 ECTS credits in mathematics/statistics. Two years documented, relevant experience in product development, engineering and design.
The master's programme is open to both international and Norwegian students.
