Experience Norwegian nature
Many international students wish to experience Norwegian nature and outdoor activities while they are here. Several students organizations exist precisely for this purpose.
Hiking and skiing
Trondheim's charm extends well beyond the city center. A short bus or tram ride away lies the nature reserve Bymarka, which offers an extensive network of trails perfect for hiking and cross-country skiing. Students can rent all manners of outdoor equipment for free from NTNUI Bumerang. This includes skis, tents, fishing gear, ice skates and more.
Koiene (Small cabins)
Students have access to something few universities can match: a network of idyllic cabins spread across the Trøndelag region from mountain to coast, available for rent throughout the year. Hiking or skiing to one of the smaller cabins is a very popular weekend activity.
Studenterhytta (Big cabin)
If you wish to get out the city for a while, but want a little more comfort than a 'koie', the Studenterhytta (Student Cabin) lies a short bus ride from the city center. It has a sauna, a wood-fired hot tub, serves cheap meals (and more), and has a relaxed, cozy atmosphere.
