Health, Safety and Environment Management

Research activity

Our research focuses on the Health, Safety and Environmental aspects of industrial systems through interdisciplinary projects explicitly linked to industrial and societal challenges.

Research in the Health domain is based at the intersection between public health, and the effects of industrial operations on workers’ health and assesses chemical and particle exposure in diverse industrial applications.

Safety research applies industrial safety science to decode worker safety and security in physically demanding sectors (e.g. construction, maritime, oil & gas) and the digital sectors (e.g. online food delivery, cybersecurity).

Environmental research practices a stakeholder-oriented, systems engineering approach to develop and implement strategies for sustainable resource management and circular economy in industrial systems (e.g. fishing, aquaculture, construction) and society.

Together, our research highlights the challenges related to the technical, social and environmental aspects of governance for a safe and sustainable future for the industry.

Through academic teachings and research projects, HMS group addresses following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
