Stroke - INM
Stroke
Stroke is one of the most widespread and serious medical conditions; the third most common cause of death, and a leading cause of disability. Effective stroke treatment requires a holistic and interdisciplinary approach.
The research group for stroke is interdisciplinary, and has an international reputation for pioneering the development of stroke unit care and researching the interaction between specialist and primary healthcare services when it comes to the follow-up of stroke patients.
The group focuses on researching the whole care pathway from pre-hospital services – via emergency medicine, early rehabilitation, and prevention and treatment of complications – to secondary prevention and maintenance of functioning over time.
Our larger projects
LAST-long is a large NFR financed project that intends to improve the knowledge basis for a research based follow-up of persons with stroke where the main goal is to prevent loss of function in the long term.

Financed by the National Association for Public Health, this is a multi centre study where five different hospitals have included a total of 815 patients admitted with stoke. The goal is to study cognitive function after stroke, follow-up period three years.
Midnor Stroke is financed by regional collaberation for education, research and innovation and is a collaberation between NTNU, St Olav's Hospital, and all other hospitals in Central Norway. Patients with first-time stroke in one of the central norwegian hospitals are included (in total 800 patients) and the goal is to identify what characterises patients who get afflicted with stroke, what treatment and follow-up theu receive and their prognosis in the short and long term (up to 10 years after the stroke).
