Exploring Trondheim

Exploring Trondheim

The congress town Trondheim is located in the district Trøndelag in the heart of Norway. As the third largest city in Norway, with its 200 000 inhabitants Trondheim is described as a big village or a small city. Trondheim was Norway's first capital city, founded more than 1000 years ago in 997 – but now, instead of Viking raiders and Hanseatic traders, visitors find jazz musicians and an international student body that savours Trondheim city life. Trondheim’s charms extend well beyond its city centre. The city maintains two public parks that collectively offer 460 km of paths and trails for hiking and walking, and the Trondheim Fjord and river Nidelva offer plenty of opportunities for water sports of many kinds. And in early September, Trondheim still enjoys long light nights.

Trondheim is called the Technology Capital of Norway. As one of the first wireless cities in Europe, it offers free Wi-Fi in downtown Trondheim for all conference delegates. Mid-Norway has the highest number of quality food producers in Norway, both fish/seafood and meat. This is reflected in the large selection of high-quality restaurants serving both traditional Norwegian and international dishes.

Visit Trondheim, the city’s tourist office, will assist with the on-site planning and hosting of several excursions such as:

  • Guided City Tours
  • Rib Boat Safari at the fjord Boat
  • Trip to the old fortress Munkholmen
  • Fishing Trip by boat at the fjord
  • Guided tour inside Nidaros Cathedral
  • Guided or self-guided biking tour around Trondheim
  • Sightseeing by boat on the river Nidelva
  • Kayaking in the river Nidelva
  • Visit by train to the world heritage town of Røros
