Laboratory for Polymers and Composite Materials

The lab is used for education, research, and developmental activity in composite materials and structures. In the laboratory, the students are given the opportunity to apply their knowledge of composite materials to create new materials.

Work in the laboratory consists of specimen manufacture, preparation, inspection and monitoring, development of technical solutions and testing. Components and specimen are produced by filament winding, vacuum infusion, or from prepreg using autoclave, vacuum hot press or vacuum bagging.

The laboratory has the following equipment:

• A central vacuum pump
• A vacuum distribution system
• Custom resin traps
• Precision scales
• Equipment for mixing, monitoring, process control and leakage detection
• Four-axis filament winding machine
• Two plastic extruders
• Different types of ovens
