Orientation Week Programme

Orientation Week Programme

The NTNU Orientation Week for the 2025 autumn semester will be held August 11-15, 2025. The dates have been set, but the specific time of day for individual events are not yet finalized. These will be announced in due time. For more details on the planned program, see below.

Attendance in the Orientation Week is not mandatory, but we highly recommend you attend if you are able. In the event that the Orientation Week clashes with planned lectures, we recommend you attend the lecture instead.

On Monday, we will hold our traditional Welcome meeting for all new international students at NTNU, with music, speeches and an introduction to your new university and city, including some important actors in student life in Trondheim.

After the meeting, you will receive your welcome bag from the Unit for International Relations, containing helpful information and goodies.

Later on Monday, you can attend NTNU's Matriculation ceremony, the offical ceremonial opening of the new academic year, open for all students.

On Tuesday, we arrange the all-important information meetings for all new international students. These meetings cover everything you need to know as a new (international) student at NTNU and a new resident in Norway.

There are two meetings: one for EU/EEA citizens and one for non-EU/EEA citizens (due to differences in immigration procedures). Both meetings are recorded and made available for students afterwards.

Use this day to relax and explore the campus and the city at your own pace.

Join us for a hike in the forest, up a mountain or along the fjord. Students will be able to sign up for a variety of different hikes depending on their ability and preference. All hikes are guided by NTNU staff, and are dependent on favorable weather.

Join us on campus for the traditional end to our Orientation Week: the Great International BBQ.

Meet up with new friends and have some freshly grilled food, then compete with other students in typically Scandinavian lawn games. Afterwards, form teams with other students and venture out into the city for our annual Trondheim Games, which will test your navigation skills and what you've learned about your new university and city.

Who can participate?

About 1500 international students participate in Orientation Week every August, and around 600 in January. International students who are eligible to participate in Orientation Week will receive further details by email from the NTNU Unit for International Relations.
