Infrastructure - Ultrasound
Infrastructure - Ultrasound laboratory
The Ultrasound Laboratory at the Department of Circulation and Medical Imaging can accommodate different research purposes and scientific levels within ultrasound technology. It has been kept flexible to support projects within acoustics, signal processing, electronics, test and development of ultrasound scanner applications and others.
We offer access to modern, high-end ultrasound systems for both medical and technical research, a broad spectrum of medical ultrasound transducers, equipment for acoustic safety testing and measurement and characterization of ultrasonic fields/properties. The lab also provides 3D-printing capabilities and ultrasound phantom synthesis for creating custom experimental setups.
The research infrastructure is managed to advance medical ultrasound imaging for improved patient care. Today it is utilized by both technical and clinical personnel in collaboration with St. Olavs Hospital and other institutions for research on emerging methods in medical ultrasound with clinical focus on adult, pediatric and fetal cardiology, echocardiography, hand-held scanners, and vascular ultrasound.
The technical focus of the hosting research group primarily resides in acoustics and beamforming, flow and tissue imaging and quantification, image analysis, machine learning and artificial intelligence.
