ENSITE: Environmental Socio-Scientific Issues in Initial Teacher Education
ENSITE (2019-2022) is an Erasmus+ project supporting the development of future science and maths teachers’ environmental citizenship and related teaching competences. To develop sustainable solutions to global environmental challenges such as climate change, plastic waste and loss of biodiversity, people need skills to deal with these challenges. In ENSITE, 11 partners from institutions across Europe will develop teaching modules for initial teacher education to help future teachers acquire skills such as critical thinking, creativity, reasoning and reflection while using environmental socio-scientific issues (SSI).
The team from ILU will design a teaching module on plastic waste. The aim of this module is to present an up-to-date status of the research on SSI issues related to plastic waste, and contribute to raising public awareness among the young generations.
