Kidney diseases
Kidney medicine includes acute chronic kidney disease and hypertension.
Chronic kidney disease and hypertension are very common conditions (respectively 10% and 30% of the adult population). Chronic kidney disease and hypertension are high risk factors for severe cardiovascular disease. Fortunately, relatively few patients develop complete renal failure and must be treated with dialysis and transplantation.
Our research group has a special focus on chronic kidney disease, and in the recent years much of our studies has been based on The HUNT Study. Clinical epidemiology has been used to study the incidence, risk factors, screening and classification of chronic kidney disease. We are now in an exciting period where we are expanding our methods to include "-omics" methods and experimental rat models (DNA tests, metabolites in urine and serum).
