The electron microscopy lab at IKOM is a life science electron microscopy lab, with experienced personnel who can assist research with various forms of sample preparation and staining of biological material such as tissues, cells, bacteria and viruses.

Equipment such as ultramicrotomes and electron microscopes can as well be used for non-biological samples.

We have transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (TEM), and serial block-face scanning electron microscopy (SBF SEM). In addition, we have various equipment intended for sample preparation.

Users should receive training in microscopy (2 days) and microscope their own samples as much as possible. This will free up engineering capacity so that more projects can be carried out/helped with sample preparation. Sample preparation must be adapted for each problem and type of sample.

For new projects, an assessment will be made of capacity, method, possibility for method testing, etc. Some project requests may have to be rejected based on insufficient capacity for method testing or project implementation.

All projects, both internal and external, that want to use the EM lab must send a request to IKOM research support by email: forskningsstotte@ikom.ntnu.no. Users must inform about their planned activity and timeframe. Users are encouraged to notify early and think long-term, as EM work takes some time. You will then be contacted by email to investigate further the needs of the projects and to clarify capacity at the EM lab.

For internal (IKOM) users, expenses are covered through rental “leiestedsbetaling”. For external users, a price will be agreed based on the needs and duration of the projects.

Please fill out this Quotation-form for using EMLab.
