Magnetic and electric separation

Magnetic and electric separation

The magnetic properties of minerals and their separation potential varies greatly and necessitates a wide range of separators. The processing laboratory is equipped with both low intensity and high intensity separators and is able to perform wet or dry separation at different scales. The largest WHIMS-unit has a capacity of approximately 200 kg/h and can be used in a continuous grinding-separation pilot circuit. Dry high intensity separation can be performed with the permanent REE roll separators. These can also be modified to handle a more magnetic feed and thus permits dry low intensity separation.

In addition to the magnetic separators, the processing laboratory is equipped with a pilot scale eddy current separator for extracting larger (<5 mm) electrically conducting particles (e.g. aluminium cans, copper wire) and an electrostatic roll-separator utilizing a corona electrode to charge the particles.
