The Gemini Centre for Marine Juvenile and Plankton Technology
The vision behind the Gemini Centre for Marine Juvenile and Plankton Technology at NTNU and SINTEF Fisheries and Aquaculture is to develop a multidisciplinary centre for research and higher education into dynamic biological, ecological and technological processes and mechanisms in cultivation and utilisation of planktonic organisms.
A strategic goal for the Gemini Centre is to develop the knowledge for the next generation of cultivation technology for fish larvae and other planktonic organisms, by developing dynamic models of culture populations and interaction between species, and between species and the environment.
We address basic biological as well as technological problems related to cultivation, the environment and the industrial potential at the national and international level.
NTNU and SINTEF have collaborated since 1986 in marine aquaculture and intensive production of planktonic organisms, through research and education of Master- and Phd-students. A main responsibility for the Centre is to further develop and strengthen the high quality academic profile and technological development.
The Gemini Centre is part of the Marine Strategic Focus Area at NTNU
Our activities within Marine Juvenile and Plankton Technology are mainly located to Sealab in Trondheim, where NTNU (lenke til NTNU Sealab) and SINTEF (lenke til SINTEF Sealab) share several laboratories.
