Main Topics

The topical division has been made along two dimensions: Catalysis service to society, prosperity and the environment as one axis and its inherent scientific questions and how to address them as the other. Beyond this, we have made an effort to emphasize common knowledge and technology platforms between existing and new solutions, such as renewable and fossil feed-stock in refining and bulk chemicals production. Likewise, we want to use both theory and experiments to synthesize, characterize and evaluate catalysts, industrial as well as model systems.

Dimension 1:

CATALYSIS IN THE SERVICE OF SOCIETY AND FUTURE NEEDS*

  • Hydrogen production in a low emissions scenario
  • Electrocatalysis, including fuel cells
  • Photocatalysis
  • Gas to liquids technology (based on hydrogen, natural gas, biogas, coal and biomass gasification)
  • CO₂ activation and upgrading
  • Refinery catalysis (oil and biomass)
  • Liquid or solid purification or waste re-duction
  • Circular processing/applications
  • Bulk chemicals from fossil and renewable feedstock
  • Fine chemicals and polymer production
  • Gaseous emissions treatment (NOx, CO, CH4, VOC, soot, ...)

Dimension 2:

STATE OF THE ART SCIENCE AND METHODOLOGY IN CATALYSIS*

  • Catalyst design, synthesis and theory
  • Catalyst characterization including operando methods: experiment and theory
  • Experiment and theory of catalytic kinetics
  • Model systems, experiment and theory

* heterogeneous/homogeneous/electro-/photo-/bio- catalysis and combinations thereof
