Ph.D. Project: In-game Agency - Action Beyond the Player
This prosject seeks to expand our understanding of the term "agency" in digital games analysis from focusing on the player (and her agency) to also including the agency of game designers and developers, game characters, and other in-game systems and mechanics. The project thus seeks to lift our focus from the player as a single actor and up to a more holistic view that where the game object and act of playing is taken into account as a complex activity with multiple actors in different roles and with different forms of agency. We achieve a more nuanced understanding of a game's communicative attributes, themes, ideologies and messages through an increased focus on the agency of these actors?
