Ottar Michelsen
About
Ottar Michelsen is a Professor in Environmental and Sustainability Management. He is currently also Vice Dean at the Faculty of Economics and Management with responsibility for sustainability.
Michelsen defended his doctorate with the title 'Eco-efficiency in extended supply chains - methodological development with regulatory and organizational implications' in 2006. He has later on taken a broad approach to sustainability management and has worked on topics such as information flow in value chains, procurement, sustainability reporting and indicator development.
Lately Michelsen has particularly worked with issues related to land use, the effect of land use on biodiversity and how companies can assess and report this, and the role of the waste companies in a circular economy and how increased recycling requirements affect the working environment.
Michelsen is originally a biologist and has previously worked with the effects of climate change on vegetation. He has also worked in the administration at NTNU as an environmental advisor and was a municipal councilor in Trondheim for 4 years (2015-2019).
