Research

Currently, I’m studying the effect of aneurysms on the biomechanical properties of ascending thoracic aortas. The title of my PhD research is biomechanical modeling of aneurysms in ascending thoracic aorta. This research project involves both experimental (From mechanical biaxial tensile and inflation tests to multi-photon microscopy and histology analysis) and computational (Structural Finite Element Analysis and/or Fluid-Structure Interaction) approaches. I am highly interested in investigating cardiovascular disorders. Based on recent studies, cardiovascular disorders have the potential to become mankind’s most imminent health crisis.

During my PhD studies, I plan to characterize the biomechanical, microstructural, and histological properties of Ascending Thoracic Aorta Aneurysms (ATAAs). Aneurysms are one the most progressive cardiovascular disorders in terms of their prevalence. In this project, we aim to analyze the aneurysmal tissue in vitro, in order to improve our understanding of the changes of the aortic wall in ATAAs. we also aim to perform a statistical study on histological results based on patients’ backgrounds. The practical aims of this project, in the long term, could involve the development of criteria for determining the circumstances necessary for surgical intervention to replace the current approach of monitoring the diameter of the aorta.
