Matteo Sangermani
About
Matteo Sangermani is a Researcher at the HUNT Center for Molecular and Clinical Epidemiology (ISM Dep.) in Guro F. Giskeødegård's Molecular Cancer Research Group. Matteo has a PhD in Biophysics (University of Basel) and is with large studies on gut microbiome. He investigates how the gut microbiome is influenced by lifestyle, how changes in the gut microbiome influence the recovery of breast cancer patients and post-treatment quality of life. In the wetlab he is employing a variety of methodsto acquire data from stool samples and blood; such as: shotgun sequencing, 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing, metatranscriptomics, and NMR metabolomics. These multi-omic dataset is then analysed for correlation and prediction modelling. The research goal is to gain insights on how and to which degree changes at one level (e.g. composition) correlates with changes at another levels of the microbiome activity (e.g. gene expression or metabolites), and explore how changes (over time, within and between individuals) correlates with treatment of cancer.
