About

Margaret Stachiewicz was born in England of Polish parents. She began playing the piano at the age of eight, and at thirteen made her first concert appearance in Mozart's G major concerto with her teacher Johann Tryggvason's orchestra.

She studied at the Guildhall School of Music , with Edith Vogel ( piano) and Gordon Back (accompaniment)  , winning several awards for solo playing and accompaniment, and was a finalist in the Gold Medal Competition .

The renowned cellist William Pleeth recommended Margaret to his most advanced students, and this collaboration led to an invitation to accompany violinist Felix Andrievsky's masterclasses at the Aldeburgh Festival , and concerts with violinists and cellists in  England, Norway, Finland and Germany.

In 1981 Margaret accepted an invitation to Trondheim as substitute accompanist for a year at Trøndelag Musikkonservatorium ( now NTNU, department of music) . Alongside  this,  she taught piano at the specialist music department of upper school Heimdal videregående skole, gave regular concerts with members of Trondheim Symphony Orchestra , accompanied masterclasses , competitions ( Nordic Soloist Biennial , Princess Astrid Music Award ) and  was repetiteur for Trondheim Opera.

She settled in Trondheim and has now been employed full time for over thirty years as piano teacher (mainly  for first  study piano students) and accompanist at NTNU ( Norwegian University of Science and Technology)

Margaret is a keen chamber music player and, as a member of Trio Nidaros ( 1990s),  performed over thirty works , including all the Beethoven , Brahms and Schubert trios. Several of their concerts were broadcast on Norwegian Radio. In addition to the standard classical and romantic repertoire the trio played several new works by Norwegian composers including Ståle Kleiberg's first piano trio , written for them . She continues to partner her colleagues in chamber music concerts , collaborating more  recently  with ( to name a few ) violinists Marianne Thorsen , Kristin Steinum, cellists Øyvind Gimse , Marianne Baudouin Lie, flautist Trine Knutsen, mezzo soprano Katarina Lindblad and other esteemed musicians .
